Susan Harkness is a Professor of Social Policy at the University of Bristol. Her research focuses on how gender and family structure relate to inequality and poverty. She has particular interests in maternal employment and single parents’ socio-economic circumstances. Current research includes work, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, on the implications of family change for the social security and child maintenance systems
